Black Beach Minnesota Elopement | Palisade Head

You don’t have to travel all the way to Iceland or Hawaii to have your elopement at a black sand beach. Minnesota also is host to one of these incredible sights. Black Beach is located on Minnesota’s north shore alongside the massive Lake Superior in Silver Bay. Silver Bay is an industrial town about an hour north of Duluth and approximately 3 hours north of Minneapolis.

Places To Visit On Your Road Trip North

Black Beach is a fun destination for couples wanting both an elopement and an adventure together. You can stop in Duluth for ice cream, shops and Canal Park before venturing farther north on the scenic highway. Iconic stops on the way include, but are not limited to, Gooseberry Falls (both the Falls and the State Park), Betty’s Pies (if the ice cream didn’t quite fulfill your sweet tooth), Split Rock Lighthouse and Two Harbors Lighthouse.

What To Do At Your Minnesota North Shore Elopement

After exchanging vows and taking in the spectacular views of Black Beach, you can enjoy a first dance barefoot in the black sand. Then head a bit farther north to our favorite scenic overlook in Minnesota, Palisade Head. Palisade head is short, but curvy upward drive with limited parking up top so keep this in mind when planning your timeline. Of course if you hire ELOPE WEST to plan and photograph your Minnesota elopement then you don’t need to worry about any of that. That’s what you hire us for!! Your only concern on your wedding day should be how you plan on making the most of your future together as husband and wife from this day forward.

Lodging On The North Shore Near Black Beach

There are so many great places to stay as you adventure to the north shore of Minnesota. The closest place near Black Beach is the campsite located right near the beach itself, Black Beach Campground. It isn’t directly on the water and isn’t privately tucked away in the trees as I would hope, but it is walkable to the scenic beach so you wouldn’t need to spend much time there anyways;) The nearest lodge is Cove Point Lodge offering both a hotel plus private cottages. You could also host a small wedding reception there in the small clubhouse on the lake. Only 10 minutes north is Tettegouche State Park, a great place for hiking enthusiasts.
